6×6 for $66
It took quite a bit of effort, but it was a success, and remained a fun project. The 6 x 6 for $66- fundraiser for the Women and Water Rights, Rivers of Regeneration Exhibit project, WWR, an exhibit that will take place at the Katherine E,Nash Gallery, U of MN, February 23rd-March 25th, 2010 was born out of an idea from Women’s Caucus for Art, San Francisco branch.
The fundraiser took place at the 801 Gallery, 801 Washington Avenue, Minneapolis a loft apartment/gallery building where the WWR core committee member Diane Katsiaficas lives and she facilitated the effort to achieve the use of that space. Betsy Dollar, both a WCA and WWR core committee member designed several flyers, that were posted on the www.womenandwater.net the exhibit website, disseminated the flyers by many members of the three co-sponsors to their contacts and a ripple effect to many other organizations. A fundraiser committee met and planned the PR, contribution collections, volunteers, duties, food, music and other arrangements. The artworks were gathered over several days, the previous art exhibit was taken down, and the fundraiser art work was hung in the pristine long corridor gallery. Inspiring clarinet music was provided by Mary Beth Huttlin, delicious food treats, and wine, were contributed. Friends, 801 residents and collectors arrived. All the preliminary work contributed to a delightful evening and a most successful event raising $1,280 for the WWR exhibit project. Diane Katsiaficas opened her apartment as a base for the fundraising operation and did a wrap-up there afterwards, she remarked ” what a fun and successful event!! We have raised $1,280 to give to the art department to join the other monies we have accrued. A number of friends complimented the whole way we did the event and also enjoyed the art, conviviality and Mary’s enchanting haunting clarinet music.”
